Amazing holiday!

We have just been to the fourth Ikos resort during the October half term and we were not disappointed. Ikos Porto Petro is beautifully located and the facilities are amazing, as you would expect. We enjoyed the pilates and yoga classes on the beach, the tasty a la carte restaurant menus, the swimming pools and the extremely well equipped gym and the luxurious spa.
The Ikos resorts are all about customer service and that makes a difference to all other resorts we have been before. From the moment you arrive until you leave you are treated with attention, courtesy, care and respect.
At Ikos Porto Petro we benefited from the attention of two members of staff in the Customers Relations team that I feel I need to mention in particular: the fabulous Arthuros, who helped us with the room upgrade and was always there for us, and the amazing Sara, who could not be more professional, considerate and attentive. Thank you both so much – you have helped us make unforgettable memories. We will definitely come back!

Superb stay, amazing staff

I’d like to start by saying that the staff here are superb, they really do make the holiday and always try to go above and beyond. They are a real credit to Ikos and are the reason I will certainly be booking another Ikos resort in the future.
I wantI’d like to start by saying that the staff here are superb, they really do make the holiday and always try to go above and beyond. They are a real credit to Ikos and are the reason I will certainly be booking another Ikos resort in the future.
I want to set out the challenges of our visit in the hopes this may better inform other travellers. This was a family holiday with my brother, his wife, their 11-year-old and my parents. My father has mobility issues due to a stroke and while he can walk with a stick, he's very slow and cannot walk very far without getting tired, he also finds stairs a real struggle. It became clear within the first day that this resort really was not suitable for him.
The resort is sprawling and undulating and, as many people have mentioned, it takes around 15 minutes to walk from one end to another – too much of a challenge for my father. The solution that they have are golf buggies, but this system is not refined enough and the wait on a number of occasions was just too long. We witnessed people multiple times just giving up and walking – not an option for my father, so we were left waiting sometimes over 15 minutes for one to turn up.
They have buggy stops at various locations that look like they should have the ability for you to push a button to call a buggy, but they don’t, therefore you are reliant on either waiting for one to pass and flagging it down or messaging the concierge and hoping that one will turn up before long.
We had another potential issue when we were booked into the external restaurant, Es Borgant in Porto Petro. This is about a 7-10 minute walk, so I had twice informed the concierge by message that we would need transport and was told they could arrange taxis and to notify them 10 minutes before we wanted to go. On the night however reception advised that the taxi firms would not do a journey that short. We would have been left high and dry, but the staff came to our rescue and Stavros was an absolute star and kindly dropped us off and picked us up at the end of the meal.
One final point around the accessibility. In the middle of the resort is the Beach Club restaurant and bar, a lovely place to spend time and one we went to frequently for lunch and also dinner. The one downside of this area however, is that the toilets are downstairs underground and there is no lift. Should you have mobility issues and be unable to manage stairs you would be forced to go to another area of the resort or your room to use a toilet.
Now onto more positive areas! The resort is lovely and it seems no expense has been spared. When you pull up at the reception drop off, the view is simply stunning. We were welcomed warmly, our bags were taken and we were shown into reception where we were instantly seated and offered a drink. We were then checked in and given a full run through of the hotels facilities. For me the check in process is so important. After you’ve been travelling for hours the last thing you want to do is stand in a queue. Ikos have nailed this, it could not have been more pleasant.
From there a golf buggy took us to our rooms and the bags arrived 30 seconds after.
The restaurants were all superb from the market place (buffet) through to all the themed restaurants as well as Es Borgant, one of the off resort options. One small issue however is that guests are able to book the restaurants weeks before their stay, if you don’t know this and expect to be able to book them on arrival, think again. We didn’t realise this and while we did manage to book a couple towards the end of the week a couple of days before we arrived, the rest were booked by the staff for us in order to prevent disappointment but were all 8.30/9pm. Thankfully I prefer eating later, but this did not suit all of our group.
We spent a lot of time relaxing in the lovely pools and the service there was always attentive, hardly ever would a glass be empty without someone coming to take an order. I'm missing my evening ritual of 5pm glass of red wine (or 3) in Porto Petro bar, overlooking the marina - the wines are superb and I can recommend the Rioja.
I’m absolutely sure as a family we will be back to an Ikos, but I think we may try one that’s less spread out and hopefully more suited to my father's needs. I would be surprised however if I didn't make a return to Ikos Porto Petro with friends!

Great concept and hotel

It was our second visit to this wonderful hotel and again we were not disappointed. The quality of the food is exceptional in every restaurant although of course we had our favourites. The adult pool was generally peaceful and Alexander kept everyone refreshed. So relaxing. The staff atIt was our second visit to this wonderful hotel and again we were not disappointed. The staff at the hotel are superb. Miriam at Beach Club gave great service and with a big friendly smile as did Chris at Olive. The concept is so good and everything from pick up at airport to on site attention to detail is top drawer. Hopefully we will be back for a 3rd visit soon.

Exceptional resort experience, service could be improved

The amenities were, however, first class. We stayed in a deluxe one bedroom suite and there was plenty of space for our family of four, especially the generous balcony area. The pools were stunning and warm so a real highlight. The bike hire and opportunity to borrow a car to explore were also real
highlights, they were very generous. We even got to eat in the nearby village as part of their local dining scheme. We really enjoyed the food and the kids loved the buffet restaurant. They were kind enough to extend check out for us too.
Unfortunately problems with the service started before we arrived. Having read the advice in other reviews to book in advance due to the half term, I downloaded the app. However, at the time some things were booked through the website or by contacting the hotel through email so I never had the bookings in one place. At other hotels with a concierge, I am used to being contacted individually to check on my needs and confirm any details. Even when we were met by the concierge on the first day they were asking me what I had booked and then they never followed up with us. This almost led to disaster as the resort had missed a booking for the dining by the sea and so there was last minute frantic messaging to sort things out - luckily I had the email as to begin with they were questioning. The service unfortunately rarely felt personal or attentive. We had to chase to confirm bookings or ask for housekeeping and the restaurants started closing down on the last day (Saturday) without notice. Even little things like the deluxe offer included a bottle
of champagne that was not there when we arrived. They were very good at trying to fix things when they had gone wrong but I would have preferred everything to have gone smoothly.

2nd visit and far improved from 2023

After visiting the resort last October we were very underwhelmed compared to previous great holidays to the Greek Ikos resorts, mostly related to poor staff service and the layout of the resort with our one and four year old at that time.

A year on, the service has vastly improved and with our children a little older and the buggy service much improved, it was a massive improvement all round.
We went this time with a deluxe one-bed suite with private pool and that certainly helped make the stay even more special. Our concierge, Anastasia was exceptional in her service and personal attention. No request was too much.
There were shows or activities on every day, the resort was extremely clean and probably our favourite part was that despite the resort being at capacity (October half-term) it never felt busy… in comparison, Odisia this May half term was full and it definitely felt it with the staff and restaurants struggling.
Congratulations to Skerdi and his team for making Porto Petro a great success!
