Lovely hotel, would recommend

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Club at the end of August 24 as a family of 3. Was a bit apprehensive due to some negative reviews but can honestly say I have little to critique about it at all, we loved it there! Was a bit apprehensive due to some negative reviews but can honestly say I have little to critique about it at all, we loved it there! We were given a free upgrade to a junior suite and the room was lovely and spacious with pool/sea views. The kitchen is a little on the small side but totally adequate for our purposes. We were self catering so mainly made breakfast in the room before heading out for the day. We did eat at the Terrace restaurant on our first night and that was the only negative I have, the food, although well presented and good portions was a little bland. That's only based on one meal so can't say that's the usual or not. There are so many restaurants and bars straight out the door that that didn't make much difference to our stay. There is a 24 hour taxi rank right outside the door too which was so handy. The rooms were cleaned daily, the whole hotel was spotless and well presented. The staff were friendly, professional and accommodating and nothing was beyond them. The pool area is lovely. Again, had read about nightmare queues and lack of sunbeds but we never had an issue getting one anytime we went down to the pool. As for the noise levels which other reviewers had commented on, we never found it a problem (we were on 6th floor beside reception for reference) and slept peacefully. My 9 year old was with us so we were never out past midnight and never heard much noise of other guests coming in later than that. All in all, the hotel is fab, on the beach, in a great area of Benalmedena and I would have no problems being a return guest. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Benalmedena.

Very good except for the bar

I would have given it 5 out of 5 but for the bar. For a hotel with about 700 guests having just one draught beer available is ridiculous and that particular beer is not liked by anyone I know. The bar service is very slow, I was waiting 20 minutesI would have given it 5 out of 5 but for the bar. The bar service is very slow, I was waiting 20 minutes to be served so I gave up. Lots of people I spoke to had the same experience. The best thing to do is to walk down the road for about 5 minutes to the Hapenny or Cocos where the there is a range of 5 plus draught beers available, they are much cheaper and with a prompt service.
I saw no problem in the pool area. Some people, I suppose, only want sun loungers in the first row near the pool. There are plenty available further back.
I experienced no noise at night in the corridors.
Yes the lifts are a bit slow to arrive but this happens in lots of hotels and the lifts at the ends are much quicker.
The entertainment quality is poor.
The hotel shop is very good. There is a Supercor up the road where you can get prepared meals, sandwiches etc at very little cost.
The breakfast is very good with a huge variety of foods available.
The staff were polite at all times but go by the book, they have very little initiative.
The cleanliness is very good all throughout the hotel.
Costs have risen since I was there last. Spain will lose its attraction for visitors.

Good but basic… that sea view helped!

This was a self-catering holiday for 10 days, we went as a family of four with the kids being aged 6 & 4.
The room was quite disappointing on arrival, considering we were self-catering the kitchen was surprisingly small, and worst of all it smelt like someone had been usingThis was a self-catering holiday for 10 days, we went as a family of four with the kids being aged 6 & 4.
The room was quite disappointing on arrival, considering we were self-catering the kitchen was surprisingly small, and worst of all it smelt like someone had been using it as a bathroom. Perhaps this was due to the fridge/freezer defrosting between visitors staying, however we left it on the entire duration and the smell did not improve, even after bleaching it. The room itself was quite old fashioned, we were shocked that we were expected to sleep on the very uncomfortable sofa bed and was only provided 2 single beds for the four of us. In addition we read quite a few reviews talking about how noisy it is during the night, I didn’t have a single good nights sleep during our stay and we were going bed about 11.30pm/12, we put white noise on to help but still, people shouting, kicking balls down corridors around at 2/3am was irritating. Other than that the room was very clean, and had everything you could need in it. We paid extra for a sea view room and that did not disappoint.
We never struggled for sun loungers around the pool, the pool area was clean and never cold which I loved! There were activities on for the kids some days too by the pool. We never use the kids clubs but it looked very good. Night time entertainment was basic, all felt very caravan holiday vibes, like Pontins abroad… but being self-catering we went out to the harbour most nights for a nice meal, and there is plenty to do there such as the ferris wheel, late night splash in the sea on the gorgeous beach and more. It was lovely there and great food. There is plenty to do all around the area so it was nice not being confined to the hotel. The shop within the hotel has a little bakery section which you can buy fresh croissants and pan au chocolat, this made my mornings perfect with an iced coffee! The bakery also did pizza/garlic bread around lunch time which we enjoyed a few days.
We heard lots of problems about the lifts when there, specifically people queueing for long periods of time, we were on level 4 so just walked but there was always a big queue. Not an issue for us but worth mentioning as you could always request a lower floor.
We did have a really good holiday, however I don’t think it would be somewhere we would consider going back to, the cost certainly didn’t reflect the quality… but it was not a bad hotel at all. The bakery and sea view saved it for me.

It gives of benidorm vibes.
The rooms are clean and decent. Not a lot of space and we are two adults and a toddler, would not like to fit a bigger family in. Beds and sofa bed were as hard as the road. Aircon worked well and the kitchen was wellIt gives of benidorm vibes.

Aircon worked well and the kitchen was well equipped. The pool area in Sept was not for us. Lots of drunk people around, food was poor in pool side area and drinks are very expensive. The walk to the marina was about 20+ mins which didn't bother us one bit as we like walking and being out and about. We spent every day at the beach as the pool was just too rowdy for us and although there was lots of loungers etc it felt so crammed in. Outdoor soft play was great for children. The shop opposite the hotel is were to buy all you need, again, on site shop is extremely expensive but it is convenient. Wouldn't come back.

We stayed here for 4 nights as a group of 4 ladies. The sleeping arrangements were a double bed, a sofa bed and a pull-out bed. The day we arrived we were an hour late due to delays at Manchester Airport. The half board restaurant was closed so we had to eat out.
The next morning we were able to explore the hotel better. The half board restaurant was busy at times but there was always something for everyone to choose from. The hot food wasn’t very hot but the desserts and breakfasts were really good.
This hotel is huge and as you enter from the street to the reception and bar. Strangely this is the 6th floor. The views from the bar are amazing.
The pool area is on the 1st floor. It got very busy and the sun loungers were always reserved early with staff advising that any unattended beds with towels on would be stripped at 10 am if not being used. I could see how this may be a problem during school holidays because there was barely enough for September.
There are a few pools here with lots of activities daily with the animation team. There was also some scuba diving lessons going on and activities for adults and kids in an animation area.
In the main pool there is a disabled access chair into the pool.
This hotel was very wheelchair friendly.
The grounds are beautifully maintained. There’s a gym, well stocked shop, pool snack bar called the tiki bar and there’s even a hairdressers.
There were weddings every day we were there. The hotel provides the wedding venue located on the seafront. Every day we would watch the area being set up, the guests arriving and then the bridal party walking over the bridge, the guests around the pool all clapping. It was so lovely, this is a beautiful location for a wedding as it has everything for guests of all ages.
The only let down we felt with this hotel was the poor entertainment in the moonlight lounge. We saw an Adele tribute act and then a Tina Turner act and both were terrible. The drinks are also very expensive in the hotel bars.
All the staff in all roles were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
I would definitely return to this hotel in the future.
